Entrance to the Heritage Center in Las Vegas (USA)

Continuing in its project for technical and commercial expansion in North America, Digifort has just recorded yet another important project with international scope. This time, the success case was carried out in the city of Las Vegas (USA), inside the car plant of Shelby American, a division of Carroll Shelby International. Considered the main independent vehicle company in American territory, it focuses its operation in automotive products that provide new driving experiences. Founded by Carroll Shelby, one of the best race car drivers in the United States, the company is a pioneer in automotive innovation since it was conceived in 1962.

.

The first phase of the project included approximately forty 5-megapixel cameras with IP technology and 360-degree rotation. They operate on a single server, equipped with the Digifort Enterprise 7.0 version. After the success of the initial stage, the second part of the deployment includes the Digifort Analytics modules (Intelligent Video Analysis) and Digifort LPR (License Plate Reading). “The Analytics will be used at the plant’s museum to monitor the perimeter around the vehicles on display, while the LPR will monitor the vehicles on the production line or undergoing maintenance”, explains Arie Hornreich, vice president of business development of Digifort in North America.

.

Responsible for the project’s customer service and after-sale, Hornreich reveals that the customer was not satisfied with the old system. The scenario pointed towards a modular solution, in which it would be possible to meet the immediate needs and future demands in digital security. “Shelby American explained it would not trust the protection of its vehicles and facilities to software with low robustness. Moreover, a tool that would help in the adoption of new protocols in image management was also necessary. We met the requirements and migrated the entire structure to Digifort. We are happy they approved the solution and stated that the existing demands were resolved”, concludes the executive.

.

Rich Sparkman, IT director at Shelby American, reveals that the previous software was difficult to operate, consumed a lot of server resources and did not record in an effective format. For him, Digifort features a more user friendly interface and integrates different resources in a flexible manner. “We are reassured with the acquisition of the product as it is capable of managing all cameras and exporting their recordings at any given time. It monitors the entire operation, from the entrance, through the production area and warehouses, to our Heritage Center, which houses millions of dollars in historic vehicles. With the deployment of Digifort, all surveillance problems at the plant were resolved”.

Relics are under surveillance by Digifort in the museum

In addition to these benefits, he highlights the fact that Digifort was chosen for its capacity to converge, integrating new and old cameras from different manufacturers. According to Sparkman, operating a system with these features allows you to get the most from each piece of equipment. “In addition to hundreds of resources, we can quickly analyze recordings, configure groups of cameras on the surveillance screen, and all perimeter breaches are informed by e-mail with pictures in real time. We will also integrate other resources, such as LPR to control gate openings and audible alarms to prevent cars from being touched in the Heritage Center”, concludes the director.

History – When the topic is high-performance cars, the name Shelby immediately comes to mind. It is considered the most important global brand in custom vehicles, such as the Ford Mustang, trucks, and the legendary Shelby Cobra.  Its manufacturing and development plant has approximately 130 thousand square feet of area. The Heritage Center exposes relics in an area of 10 thousand square feet, where the first ever manufactured “Cobra” is on display, being considered one of the world’s most expensive cars today. Meanwhile, the “Carroll Shelby” store sells products in a pleasant five thousand square feet area. Located in Las Vegas, these three environments are all monitored by Digifort.

.

Carroll Shelby dominated car racing in the mid-1950s, being twice elected “Driver of the Year” by “Sports Illustrated” magazine. His greatest achievement was in 1959, when he won the “24 Hours of Le Mans” race. In 1996, Shelby American opened a plant in the “Las Vegas Motor Speedway”.  With cutting-edge facilities, the company began producing the “Cobra 427 S/C”, the “Cobra 289 FIA Cobra” and the “Cobra” components for passenger cars. Still faithful to history, these genuine “Cobras” receive subtle updates in order to make them even more attractive when compared to those models produced in the 1960s.  Presently, they continue being irresistible for those who hold a passion for four wheels.

System includes monitoring the Shelby store

The Ford Motor Company asked Carroll Shelby and his team to provide consultancy services on the Ford GT in 2004. After two years, Shelby and Ford formed a new partnership to build high-performance vehicles. The idea gained ground in 2005, when Carroll helped to boost the company with a new series of vehicles in this style, built in partnership with the Ford Motor Company. Working with Ford Racing, Ford SVT and the new model development team, the partnership resulted in a sequence of vehicles which took the releases from Shelby to the top of the wish list all over the planet.
