With new laws, private investments and an improvement in public infrastructure, the Brazilian port industry has been receiving new business possibilities. On the other hand, Information Technology is one of the paths capable of eliminating bottlenecks that still hinder the growth at the country’s ports. With solutions guided by the needs of customs precincts and depots, Digifort collaborates in a direct fashion with the demands arising from this business segment. This time, the software’s most recent success case in this segment was registered at the “Poly Terminais Portuários S/A” complex, located in ItajaĂ/SC.

.

The work was developed by Alarm System Distribution and Training, who is responsible for the client’s technical restructuring, in partnership with the integrator Essencial Tecnologia Inteligente, who currently manages the depot’s preventive maintenance. “We received a report stating that the CCTV system was restarting at 15 to 45 minutes intervals. This cannot happen, since the company operates as a customs bonded depot. We scheduled a survey and we found that the platform being used was outdated and presenting serious operational problems. It was then, after analyzing the site’s technical scenario, that we identified the need for having Digifort”, reveals Sandro Neves, director at Alarm System.

.

He says that the project was entirely based on Digifort, even if the main problem was not software related. Thus, the specialists have demonstrated the advantages of using a 100% Brazilian system, local support, scalability, unique rate of acquisition, no yearly renewals, and a product possessing an excellent world market share. The client approved the study, provided that there was involvement of the partners in the project’s implementation, being supportive in face of the possible situations that could complicate the migration from the old CCTV system to the new IP monitoring system from Digifort.

Solution – After 60 days of adjustments, server exchanges and training, the depot has begun being monitored via Digifort. The main challenge was to integrate the “Southwest Microwave (Perimeter Sensor Cable) to the system, since its version did not support IP communication. A “middlewarewas created, which was compatible with the “RS232″ port, interconnected to the cable modules and communicating with Digifort’s global events via a “HTTP string. In addition to events at the perimeter fence that generate an alarm, they bring the camera image with a preset, located at the point of intrusion under a pop-up mode. The information is also generated on a digital MAP of the depot, all within “Digifort’s Monitoring Client” platform.

.

The director reveals that, in addition to the unprecedented logical solutions applied to the project, all obsolete equipment was also replaced. “We installed high-quality IP cameras. Manufactured by Venetian, they now provide the depot with cutting-edge image capture technology. After an audit from the Federal Revenue, the precinct was named as being a port reference, in accordance with COANA and other safety standards. It was a great challenge for us, a great solution for the client and the certainty that Digifort offers their partners the best technological support available. For the market, what remains is the proof that knowing the tool, the implementation environment, and all the responsibilities related to the project, will always lead to success”, concludes Neves.

.

Rodrigo Zimmermann, IT manager at Poly Terminais, says that there are 178 cameras monitoring the complex. They directly help in the activities of the customs bonded depot, but very soon will become indispensable with the berthing of the first vessels. “Problems with the old system have led us to search for another solution. The Brazilian made software factor and the reputation in the market played a key role and were decisive. The benefits were many, but I can highlight the software’s quality, the flexibility to the internal scenario and the effective partnership between client and supplier. In our monitoring room, all the agents who operate the system 24 hours per day are satisfied with Digifort’s convenience and stability”, he concludes.
